2.Bundesliga side Heidenheim are currently flying high in the league and their enjoying life after promotion from the 3.Liga. One of the club’s top performers this season has been their keeper Jan Zimmermann, the former Darmstadt keeper has proved to be a fantastic bit of business.

Today news broke that Heidenheim will be without their keeper for several months. Zimmerman suffered a concussion in Heidenheim’s 3-0 victory over St. Pauli before the international break and in a routine examination a brain tumour was discovered at the back of his head. He will be receiving his treatment at Günzburg hospital and he’s set to have surgery on Wednesday.

Heidenheim have been shocked by the news, manager Holger Sanwald had this to say: “This message was for all of us initially a shock, we know that Jan will be at the district hospital Günzburg in the hands of recognized specialists and hope that he then quickly can return to the pitch. Until then, Jan but can fully rely on the support of our team and our entire organization.” If things go to plan then Zimmermann could return in three months time. Sanwald also said that the club have no plans to bring in a replacement and that Rouven Sattelmaier and Felix Körber are good enough to replace Zimmerman.

Zimmerman on his tumour: “Of course it is not easy at first with such a situation. In retrospect, I’m glad that this tumour was discovered by chance and will already be surgically removed on Wednesday.”

Very sad news to hear and we wish him all the best and hope he gets well soon to continue his fantastic start to the season. Get well soon Jan Zimmerman!
