Erzgebirge Aue 0-0 Kaiserslautern: The Red Devils are held at relegation battlers Aue

Two sides at different end’s of the table faced up against each other and were separated by twenty points. Kaiserslautern travelled to Aue in hope they can win and that Darmstadt slipped up against Fürth as they hunt for automatic promotion. As for Aue their fighting for survival and go into the game in good form, their last home outing saw them defeat promotion chaser’s Karlsruher 3-1. Will Kaiserslautern follow in the same fate?

Kaiserslautern went close when Löwe tried his luck from range and the curling effort flashed just wide. Moment’s later Aue shouted for a penalty and it was given, Mugosa flicked the ball up and it struck Schulze in the face, luckily for Kaiserslautern after a long pause the referee finally made the right decision in giving a corner.

Zimmer provided a good threat down the right and after some good work he lost possession and fortunately a poor clearance gifted Karl a chance, sadly for the guests he dragged the shot wide.

Despite the lack of chances in the opening half hour, the game was being played at a great tempo and their were plenty of tough tackles. Both team’s were certainly showing their fight.

Just after the half hour mark Kaiserslautern had a freekick in a brilliant position and they didn’t waste it. Löwe stepped up and struck a powerful effort towards goal and it dipped at the last minute and saw Mannel pull of a fantastic save. The keeper was quickly up to block the rebound as it fell to Orban, however he wasn’t needed as Orban smashed his chance into the side netting.

Aue came close before the forty minute mark, Benatelli found space on the edge of the area and after being picked out he unleashed a low effort towards goal, Sippel managed to get down and palm the shot away.

The host’s were causing problem’s with their quick breaks and they almost produced the break though when Benatelli played through Wood and as he was about to pull the trigger Fmitschow made a great challenge and in doing earned a goal kick.

Kaiserslautern almost grabbed the lead as an excellent cross saw Zoller raise highest and his header was brilliantly saved by Mannel as he palmed it over the bar.

Wood had the chance of the game in the last ten minutes as he raced through and bared down on goal, a little bit of pressure from Heubach seemed to have put the youngster off and he could only hit it straight at Sippel, who made the save.

Aue came close once more late on as Kortzorg teased Demirbay before getting enough space and firing a good effort at goal, sadly for the Aue fan’s Sippel matched the effort again.

With result’s going against them Aue drop down to second from bottom and are in real danger of slipping out of the league. They fought hard for a draw and they certainly had the chances to win the game, so did Kaiserslautern, a draw was fair and it wasn’t the result Kaiserslautern wanted either, with Karlsruher winning they drop down to fourth.

Up next in the last game of the season Aue travel away to face Heidenheim, a win is a must for them. Kaiserslautern have a tough match as they face champions Ingolstadt, they’ll be hoping that Ingolstadt are already on their holiday’s.
